For a apartment pane of glass? I had a windshield for a 88 Jetta replaced 8 years agone which is a formed piece of safety drinking glass ordered and installed for $88. Was it the fact that they had to cut the drinking glass?

I am sure that they can make the windshield from the frame. I was told by a identify I simply called a few minutes ago that they can not cut laminate glass and as a result they could not make a windshield if the automobile was going to exist driven. Does anyone have a different have on this?

They merely didn't want to. Stop stomping your feet and find someone else.

Listen, Charlotte is a big town. Certainly you should be able to find whatever it is that yous need.

Pick up the Yellow pages, look under automotive glass and let the fingers practise the walking. Tell them it is for a Jeep so yous won't misfile them. Plan on driving it in that location or taking them WS frame to them then they can actually come across what it is they are quoting. Repeat.

Jeff at Champion Toyota in Houston will send OE glass at a off-white price. 800-327-2087

Find a shop that does custom piece of work for hot rods - non the "lodge the glass from the supplier and pay a loftier school kid $8 an hour to install it" place. I pay virtually $75 for a custom cut with installation. They tin cutting it from the frame dimensions, merely it's easier to just copy the old glass, fifty-fifty if it's broken.

I have a cracked windshield on my 73 40. Just wondering how much it commonly costs to replace.

This is a sore topic. Rant to follow--

I bought a new Toyota windshield from the local stealership in mid 2007. List price was under $80, I paid the jobber price of $54 and installed information technology myself.

Less than two years subsequently, July 2009, I took a hit from a large stone and thought hell, for $54 I'll just supplant information technology. Chosen the same dealership, and was advised that there had been a "slight price increment." New list toll is $285.07, new jobber price is $212. Slight increase my a$$. That'due south +369%.

So last week I took the 40 to Binswanger Glass for a ding repair, courtesy of my insurance. While waiting for the epoxy to cure I was bitching to the manager about Toyota's new windshield price. He told me that PPG articles replacement glass for Toyota, and that the "real cost" of an FJ40 windshield, badged as PPG rather than Toyota, is around $30. His price is under $50.

I'd propose that you purchase the glass and install yourself. Information technology isn't difficult. Hither's a MUD thread that walks you through the rope and soap procedure.

and then Lee, the most important information you left out is WHERE Can I BUY THIS $30-50 Toyota-repro glass by PPG?

Hey Dave, I guess that critical bit of information got lost in the bluster. I was at Binswanger Drinking glass in Austin. They're all over the south and it appears that there are locations in Alabama.

Binswanger

To clarify, according to the shop manager, the production cost of a flat, tinted FJ40 windshield is "no more than $30." The invoice price to a glass shop is under $50, but that isn't the price to the consumer. They have multiple pricing levels depending on which insurance company they're dealing with, or which trunk shop, or for straight sales to not-insured customers. I was told that I could buy a tardily model FJ40 windshield for effectually $100, or roughly twice the retailer's invoice price. That'due south nonetheless ~$xx more than the $75-80 that other posters report paying for custom cutting windshields, which sounds like the all-time deal bachelor.

Just going to throw this out at that place in case information technology helps someone. I contacted a local glazing contractor who does storefronts for buildings and he said he would have no problem cut me a slice. I took the glass out and will exist taking information technology to him so he tin can cut the new windshield. Don't narrow your search just to automotive places.

My local window and glass installer did mine concluding yr.
He had the safe gaskets and everything. Cut the glass on site, traced the old one.
I live in a pocket-sized boondocks of nearly 20,000 people to. There are 3-4 shops that will do it hither.
Total was $160 with glass, install and gasket.

Cruiser Corps sells glass.....but the slice they sent me didn't fit. Information technology was ane/eight" to 3/16" as well big. I had a professional drinking glass shop do the install and they really struggled. Once it was in the seal clearly wasn't laying correctly. They offered to try and shave the glass down merely warned information technology may break. Sure enough - the Cruiser Corp drinking glass broke. Store cut a new windshield using the old - glass popped right in and the seal lays perfectly.

Cruiser Corp wouldn't refund. "Policy" required shipping the drinking glass back, they then would have to evaluate it, and then they would have shipped me a new piece. While this might be "policy" it's extremely impracticable for a windshield....particularly when the shipping cost is probably more $ then they take into the drinking glass. I was besides at a small shop with limited space - with no front glass and no roof on the truck neither driving the truck nor leaving information technology there for a week or more were options. I took the gamble hoping they could cut the Cruiser Corp windshield to correct size. Moral of the story.....detect someplace local unless you are willing to gamble on the Cruiser Corp glass. I'll never spend another dollar at Cruiser Corp.
